YOUTH MINISTRY NEWS FOR DECEMBER

Middle & Senior High Youth Groups –

No special gatherings this month, but stay tuned for important information about programming in the new year!
And we hope to see all at Trim-a-Tree on Saturday, December 3!

Confirmation Class – Our four Confirmands will meet with advisors on December 11 at 4:30 in the afternoon, at a place yet to be announced (so watch those emails). The Session will begin with a reflection about the meaning of Advent, and conclude with a Christmas sharing. This will include the exchange of gifts that are not purchased, but the giving away of a personal item by which all can share aa little part of one’s life story.

YOUTH MINISTRY IN NOVEMBER

Middle High Youth Group
The Middle High crew had a WONDERFUL service project at the Cradles to Crayons (C2C) warehouse in October, and this month is one for play! And pizza! The crew has been invited to Nathan Reeder’s home at 118 Scotch Pine Road in Weston for a game night and simple pizza supper on Friday night, November 18, from 6 to 8 P.M. The group is advised by Kristen Reeder and Joe Mayher. When Kristen sends out the email with all the details, it would be MOST APPRECIATED if parents replied regarding attendance! Many thanks!

Confirmation Class
The next Confirmation Class meeting will be held on November 20 from 4:30 to 6:00 – with location TBD and sent out by email soon! The topic will be the seasons of the church year, as well as church history (which we will make fun!) Confirmands are asked to read Chapter 11 in our study book, Words for the Journey. The Confirmation Class is advised by Cathy Liddell and Joe Mayher

Senior High Youth Group
This month it is our Senior High crew’s turn for service, as last time they had great outing to Crane Beach on a perfect day in September. For many, many years our Senior High youth have decorated the meditation garden behind Wayside Hospice in Wayland for the residence’s annual “Lights of Remembrance” commemoration for all those touched by loss in the past year. Our day to do this is Sunday, November 13 following church. We will have a brief meeting over a simple lunch at the church at noon time in the library (provided), and then head over to Wayland to do the decorating. We are usually done by 2:30pm; 3:00pm at the latest! Please respond to the email to indicate if you can attend! This group is advised by Janet Mitchell and Joe Mayher.

Volunteering at Cradles to Crayons – from Kristen Reeder, Middle High Advisor
On Sunday, October 16 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm we have a reservation to volunteer at the
Cradles to Crayons (C2C) warehouse, lovingly nicknamed "The Giving Factory." This will be a joint Middle School, Confirmation and Senior High Youth Group volunteering opportunity. Once again, I ask that each youth bring a bagged lunch to church, as we will leave CCW at 12:15 pm. Please reply to my email about C2C, with a release form which must be filled out by each participant and given to me by October 16th. In addition, C2C requires a pre-registration form with each person's name, birth date of students under 18, parent's or guardian's full name and emergency contact phone numbers. I will fill out this form for the entire group and must send it to C2C at least 5 business days before our date.

If your child will be participating, please include this information in your response. This is a great opportunity for our kids to directly help children in need in our own community. My family and I have volunteered at The Giving Factory many times and it is a fun and rewarding experience. We will be back to church by 3:30 for pick-up.

I am looking forward to a great year with your children. Joe Mayher coadvises the group with me, and we will also need addition adult support from time to time.

Confirmation Class Meets on October 16 following Cradles to Crayons: We have scheduled confirmation class from 3:30 to 5:00pm at the church on October 16 in case any of our four confirmands wish to attend the prior service outing. This is not expected, but would of course be meaningful. The class session, to be taught by Cathy Liddell and Joe Mayher, this month engages a theme about worship, including the sacraments, music and prayer. Confirmands should read chapters 10, 12, 13, 14 & 15 (whichis not as much as it sounds like!) in our book of letters, Words for the Journey.

Senior High Youth: To repeat, Senior High youth are invited to attend the Cradles to Crayons service project listed above—but must contact Kristen and comply with the registration requirements! There has also been an email out there from some time ago inquiring into interest in a trip to Crane’s Beach on Columbus Day Weekend, with Monday now looking preferable. (But so far only two of you have replied….) One thought was to do the CROP Walk a week late by walking 1.5 miles down the beach, turning around and walking back, if any are interested in using our time that way. Or… we can just enjoy a walk and a talk (including our service project) and a little picnic. The thought would be to leave the church at 10:30am and be home around 2:30pm. Please let Joe Mayher know if you have interested, as he is advising this group with Janet Mitchell.
