ADULT EDUCATION - 2011

BIBLE STUDY AND DISCUSSION

NEW ADULT BIBLE STUDY SESSION STARTS FEB, 13, 2011
In the fall, we had an exciting time discussing and
learning from the Letter of James. This winter,
we'll be looking at Paul's Letter to the Ephesians,
each Sunday at noon from February 13th to
March 6th. Intern Pastor and Teacher Bill Cordts
will again be providing a short study companion,
which will be available a week in advance at the
hallway information station.

All are welcome!

Bible studies will be held at 12:00 noon, in the library on Sundays

Bill has prepared a brief study aid as well, intended to facilitate a close, careful reading of the text. This is not required reading, but all are encouraged to take a copy anyway. Copies are available on the hallway information station and in the church office.

 PAST EVENTS:

ADULT EDUCATION WITH RABBI RONALD WEISS

Rabbi Weiss is an esteemed colleague of our Pastor’s and valued friend of our church.  For eight years Ron and Joe co-taught “The Rabbi and The Rev,” a Fall course in shared scripture studies.  Last Spring Ron taught our Faith Discovery children for three weeks during our Workshop Rotation module.  We are honored that he has been known to speak of himself as “Rabbi Emeritus of CCW,” when in fact he does bear that honor conferred by Temple Beth Elohim in Wellesley.

The Rabbi will be back to lead an adult education experience following church on Reformation Sunday, October 28, from 11:50 am to 12:50 pm in the sanctuary.  The scripture text for that Sunday is one of many in the Gospels that give a negative portrait of the Pharisees.  The Pharisees, however, are a revered sect in Judaism, and in fact all Rabbis trace their sense of vocation very much to this learned School.  Ron studied with Ellis Rivkin, a renowned scholar, and a specialist in this area.  Among Rivkin’s many books his tome entitled A Hidden Revolution: The Pharisees Search for the Kingdom Within remains a classic in Jewish-Christian relations.

Our Reformation Sunday worship will continue with this forum that advances the important and faithful work of reforming and reformulating the relationship between Christians and Jews as we learn how much both traditions owe to the Pharisees.
